Das Multiphonics Festival:
Seit 2013 hat sich das Multiphonics Festival als internationales Jazz- und Worldmusicfestival in NRW etabliert. Im Mittelpunkt des Festivals stand immer die Herausforderung, die vielfältigen Möglich-keiten der Klarinettenfamilie und anderer Holzblasinstrumente auszureizen. So konnten u.a. über die Jahre brillante Musiker*innen wie Giora Feidman, David Murray, Gianluigi Trovesi, Taksim Trio, Anouar Brahem, Anat Cohen, Kinan Azmeh, Paquito d’Rivera, Mohamed Najem oder die New York Gypsy All Stars um den Klarinettisten Ismail Lumanowski gewonnen werden.
Aus dem Bedürfnis heraus, ein neues Forum für kreative Klarinettenmusik in Deutschland zu schaffen, gründete sich im Jahr 2013 der gemeinnützige Verein Multiphonics e.V. in Köln. Daraus entwickelte sich der Gedanke, ein gleichnamiges Festival ins Leben zu rufen. Das Multiphonics Festival konzentriert sich auf modernere Formen der Klarinettenmusik, wobei es jedoch keine musikalische Stilistik grundsätzlich ausschließt. Seit dem ersten Festival 2013 ist Annette Maye die künstlerische Leiterin des Festivals. Köln ist seit 2015 der zentrale Festivalort für alle Konzerte und Workshops. Darüberhinaus finden ausgesuchte Konzerte in weiteren Städten Nordrhein-Westfalens statt.

The Multiphonics Festival:
Since 2013, the Multiphonics Festival has established itself as an international jazz and world music festival in North Rhine-Westphalia. The festival has always centred on the challenge of exploring the full range of possibilities offered by the clarinet family and other woodwind instruments. Over the years, this has enabled the festival to attract brilliant musicians such as Giora Feidman, David Murray, Gianluigi Trovesi, the Taksim Trio, Anouar Brahem, Anat Cohen, Kinan Azmeh, Paquito d’Rivera, Mohamed Najem and the New York Gypsy All Stars led by clarinettist Ismail Lumanowski.
From the need to create a new forum for creative clarinet music in Germany, the non-profit association Multiphonics e.V. was founded in Cologne in 2013. From this developed the idea of creating a festival of the same name. The Multiphonics Festival focuses on more modern forms of clarinet music, although it does not fundamentally exclude any musical style. Since the first festival in 2013, Annette Maye has been the artistic director of the festival. Cologne has been the central festival location for all concerts and workshops since 2015. In addition, selected concerts take place in other cities in North Rhine-Westphalia.
